A B O U T U S
Humboldt Bicyclists came about in early 2024 when a collection of road bike folks decided on a primary idea of having a flexible online space for organizing group rides.
A couple meetings later, we decided to move forward with creating a club and a website. A comprehensive calendar with cross-postings from the myriad Humboldt bicycle groups is central to the website, so that it’s easy to find rides on our wonderful Humboldt roads and paths. In addition, we are creating a process for developing and preparing new ride leaders, who can create their own rides. Members will be able to join or create rides to further their own goals - whether for leisure, personal challenge, or as a bonus for another event.
We’re in the beginning stages of making this happen, and so far are modeling our format on a cross between traditional road bike clubs (such as Marin Cyclists) and ad hoc group ride platforms (such as Shift2bikes in Portland, OR).
We are a group of friends who come together to ride bikes. We do want to maintain safety on rides and teach safe cycling - but participants generally ride at their own risk. Club policies - such as whether or not to carry insurance - will be made with careful input from concerned parties. ("Accidents do happen" - though they can be greatly reduced by practicing safe, defensive cycling.)
Annual membership fee is just $10 for an individual, $15 for a family in the same household. Club officers and ride leaders are non-paid.
Full Membership includes:

The Humboldt Bicyclists Club thrives on building and supporting a community of cyclists of all ages and abilities, regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, and socioeconomic status. Understanding, accepting, and valuing our human differences, we strive to respect and include these differences in the spirit of friendship and community service as we ride, explore and train together in a safe and supportive environment that celebrates the joy of cycling.
